The Peace of Wild Things

The Peace of Wild Things
When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children's lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting with their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.

Isaiah says, "In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength." So, i'm trying to rest and not to worry about what comes next and how it's all going to work out. i feel like i'm always fighting to enjoy the "here-and-now" to be at peace today, not knowing what tomorrow will bring and i'm tired. i want to rest, today, under the trees, to learn from the lilies who never toil for their food but close their eyes and sing in the breeze. i want to fall asleep to your whispers and walk ahead with the dimmest of torches.

i want to enjoy the "here and now" as well with peace resting on my heart, freedom in my bones, and joy in my voice.

Oh how wonderful of our God to have made such peaceful creations - that for me oft relax me more than any fake drug or medicine of man could.

Molly I miss you dear. You guys are most welcome anytime to come climb in the Teton Mountain Range with us. We're hoping to walk the Teton Crest Trail (44 miles) over a long weekend before the winter, and would LOVE to do that with you two :)

Thanks for allowing the fresh aire and presence of God to dwell in you. It is refreshing and has given my mind awakening often.
